Solar Electricity has the least environmental impact of alternative energy sources.  Wind energy impacts bird populations.  Biofuels  produce CO₂ and air pollution.  Hydroelectric, nuclear, tidal all have environmental drawbacks.  Solar panels and thermal applications produce no impact during operation.  Photovoltaic panels are composed primarily of silicon and, of course, require energy to produce.  But their long life (25+ years) and recyclability make solar panels a rarity in landfills.  Solar power is the greenest of energy alternatives.
